Garden of Discovery Montessori School is accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), serving children ages 18 months to 12 years old. We also receive the highest scores from the State of Georgia’s Bright from the Start program.

We proudly offer a Curriculum of Excellence that features hands-on work instead of rote memorization. In Montessori, the curriculum follows the child; the child does not follow the curriculum. Through this method there is no “falling between the cracks” or “being left behind.”

Our Mission

It is the goal of Garden of Discovery Montessori School, Inc., to assist the child in his or her journey toward an adulthood incorporating self respect, love of learning, creativity, social and personal responsibility.

It is our further aim to support the child with the life long ability to independently and cooperatively solve problems by using academic and social skills learned in the most formative years.

We strongly emphasize the importance of the family in the child's development and seek to create a partnership with parents.

Diversity Statement

Garden of Discovery is proud of its diversity.  We serve children and their families from many different cultures, and enrollment is open to all children regardless of race, color, religion, creed, gender, disability or national origin.

We strive to expose and educate our children in an environment that embraces diversity and values the cultural experiences of all people throughout our world.

Our History

Garden of Discovery was established by Stephanie Michielsen and her mother, Carol Smith, in 1999.   The school was originally located in a converted house in Grayson. In 1999, the land and the house, was purchased and construction on the main building began.  In 2001, we moved into the new building with three primary classrooms and the Toddler Community.  In 2004, we opened the Elementary program.
