Snacks
In the Montessori environment, the parents take turns furnishing snacks for the class one week at a time. Each teacher creates a weekly rotation for the parents. If the time you are assigned is not convenient, please contact the office to arrange a switch with another parent. Weekly Snack and Supply Lists include items used for food preparation activities, Practical Life Activities (such as flower arranging) as well as healthy snack foods. We strive to exceed the USDA guidelines in snack items. It is helpful to include your child in shopping for these items.
Snack and lunch routines are an important part of the instructional day in which nutrition and etiquette are emphasized. Children also learn about different foods, cuisines, and the importance of building healthy minds and bodies.
If your child arrives for Before-Care between 7 – 8 AM, you may send in a nutritious breakfast food such as oatmeal, low-sugar cereal, toast, or fruit muffin. Please note that absolutely no fast foods are permitted at the school. After 8 AM, all breakfast foods are removed and a healthy morning snack is provided.
Lunches
We ask that you pack your child’s lunch every day with a protein, vegetable, and fruit. If your child has a perishable item in his lunch, please include a frozen ice-pack in the box. A microwave is available in each classroom to reheat food.
Milk and water are provided for the children. If your child has a food allergy, please inform the Office and your child(ren)'s teacher and assistant will be informed. If your child has a dairy allergy or is lactose intolerant, please send in a a milk alternative at the beginning of the week. Please mark your child(ren)'s name on the container.
If your child(ren)'s lunch does not meet USDA requirements in his or her lunch, the school will have to supplement the food for your child and you will be billed $5 for the meal. Chips, candy, cookies, pre-packaged conveience foods (such as Lunchables and Uncrustables) will be returned to your child's lunchbox. Please save these items for home.
Please ensure that lunch boxes and lunch containers (sandwhich boxes, thermoses, etc.) are plain without logos, cartoon characters, or popular culture icons. Please also remember to include your child’s name or initials on the outside of their lunch box.
Pizza Fridays
Each Friday that school is in session is Pizza Friday. You may choose to have your child participate in this program for $5. Children are served two slices of pizza, a fruit, a vegetable, and milk or water. Participation is compeltely optional. If the school is closed on a Friday, Pizza Day will be on the Thursday.
