Home School Handbook Attendance and Punctuality
Attendance and Punctuality

Regular attendance is important to your child(ren)'s success in the Montessori environment both academically and developmentally.  The more that your child feels a part of his class, through regular attendance and prompt arrival, the more readily he will flourish and reveal his capabilities and talents.

The instructional day begins promptly at the end of carpool (8:00 AM for Pre-K Primary; 8:30 for Elementary; and 9:00 for Toddler and Primary).  The teachers plan the morning work cycle around each child.  When your child enters the classroom late, it disrupts everyone, but most of all it offsets your child’s day more than anyone else.  When you arrive late with your child, please have them wait in the office with the Head of School or Office Manager, and she will escort your child to the classroom in a timely manner.

We realize traffic problems occur.  On these days more than one child will be late and this will be understood.  However, excessive tardiness will not be tolerated.  Please plan doctor’s appointments after school hours.  If you must schedule an appointment during the morning, let the office know one day in advance.  As parents and teachers, we must model punctuality and respect for the educational process.  Just as you are expected to be at work on time, you child must expect to arrive at school, his job, on time each day. Teaching punctuality now instills in children the importance of respecting other people's time as well as their own.

If you arrive with your child thirthy minutes past his start time without a doctor’s excuse, your child may not be permitted in class that day at the discretion of the teacher or administrator.

If your child becomes ill and will miss school, please inform us.  If your child will miss a day or several days of school, please inform us in advance.  Please note that those children enrolled through the Georgia Pre-K program are subject to additional requirements concerning attendance and punctuality (see the Georgia Pre-K Policies).
